The Artist

Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Dermot, I’m a landscape photographer based in Alberta, Canada. Thank you for taking the time to view my work.

Photography has always been a way for me to connect with the landscapes I love. While I focus on the technical side of capturing an image, I also try to bring in a creative and thoughtful perspective - so it’s not just about what the place looks like, but how it feels. I aim to create images that feel contemplative and reflective, giving people a chance to connect with nature in a more personal way.

I've been living in Canada for twenty years, but I am originally from Ireland, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in philosophy and classical civilization. This background shapes how I approach photography - with curiosity and a sense of meaning. I have travelled and photographed all over this beautiful country (and many other places worldwide) and now live with my wife and children near the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, which have become a huge source of inspiration for my work.

I have used a variety of camera systems over the years including film and digital. In the past, much of my work was created using medium and large format panoramic cameras (Hasselblad Xpan, Linhof Technorama 617) and Fuji Velvia transparency film. I'm now using a fully digital workflow, currently a high-resolution Sony mirrorless system.

The Linhof Technorama 617 SIII. Much of my panoramic work was created with this camera.

I have been fortunate to receive many awards and honours throughout my photographic journey, including a National Accreditation in Fine Art from the Professional Photographers of Canada, a Kodak Gallery Award for photographic excellence, and the title of Master Photographer in Fine Art from Master Photographers International.

I create large-format, gallery-quality prints that resonate emotionally with viewers. My work is produced using only the finest materials, such as archival paper prints, canvas giclées, ChromaLuxe metal prints, and acrylic facemounts, ensuring each piece meets a museum-quality standard.

Whether I’m using my panoramic film cameras, or my digital system, my goal is the same: to capture not just the view, but the feeling behind it - and hopefully, to share a bit of that experience with you.
