Cathedral Grove
Vancouver Island
Cathedral Grove, located in MacMillan Provincial Park, is one of the most impressive stands of old growth forest on Vancouver Island. Here visitors can stroll through a network of trails under the shadow of towering ancient Douglas fir trees, majestic pillars untouched by the modern world – some more than 800 years old. I wandered around the forest for a couple of hours in awe of these giants surrounding me.
For this image, I used a low camera angle to emphasize the scale of the trees and to include the undergrowth and ferns on the forest floor. I used a polarising filter to eliminate any glare from the vegetation and to further enhance the green colours.
