The Cosmos Within
Saskatchewan
"Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return. And we can, because the cosmos is also within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself."
- Carl Sagan
I find it fascinating to think that everything in the universe, including the atoms in ourselves, was created through nuclear reactions in the fiery depths of stars that eventually exploded forth their elements. We are the universe evolved to consciousness, pondering its own existence.
The wheel, one of the fundamental inventions of humankind, represents us in the image and it echoes the spiral wheel of the Milky Way galaxy behind, from whence we came.
This image is a composite of two photographs, one for the foreground and one for the starry background. Very different camera settings are required for each part to maintain a high quality image.
